AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
A large section of the sun has melted off and hurtles towards the planet, causing rolling heat waves where surface temperatures rise to unbearable levels. During one of these heat waves, a young man (Vincent Hospodářský) meanders through a sleepy town, encountering a slew of townspeople who are unable to cool themselves in the stifling heat. With a captivating lead performance and a compelling ensemble of sweaty side characters, Brutal Heat hothouses both the scenes and the interactions, but tells its story with a surprising degree of soul, sensitivity and artistic control. Focusing an evocatively hellfire lens onto the coming-of-age genre, Brutal Heat marks a distinct new voice in Czech cinema.
