MELBOURNE/NAARM, AUSTRALIA, September 5, 2023 –
The Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia (CaSFFA) is proud to announce its 11th annual film festival with an exciting program of films that celebrate this year’s theme of the ‘Spirit of Independence’, commemorating the 30th anniversary since Czechia and Slovakia each gained their independence as sovereign states.
To celebrate this momentous anniversary, CaSFFA is inviting you to the wonderful Classic and Lido cinemas in Melbourne as we kick off our festivities this October, and to the beautiful Regal Theatre in Adelaide in early November.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the Melbourne Cinémathèque once again to co-present a hilarious program titled “All the World’s Bedlam”: Screwball Czechoslovak Style, showcasing classic Czechoslovakian screwball comedies over three Wednesday nights at ACMI in Melbourne. Highlights include Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up and Scald Myself With Tea (1977), Happy End (1967) and An Old Gangsters Moll’s (1927).
Of this year’s program, CaSFFA Artistic Director, Ali Back, says:
“Our varied program brings together emerging filmmakers and old masters, presenting works that are wide-ranging and ever-changing in scope. It is through the program’s lineup that the spirit of this year’s festival emerges – the Spirit of Independence – a spirit you will find in the stories on screen, as well as in the filmmakers who craft them.”
CaSFFA’s list of sponsors and partners for 2023 includes The Foreigner Brewing Company, Sense Creative Advertising, Mr Moto, Becherovka, Josef Chromy Wines, Mattoni & Magnesia Mineral Water, Gourmet Czech, The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra, Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Sydney, Consulate General of the Czech Republic, Slovak Audio Visual Fund, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Burnside City Council, Czech Centres, Arina Film Production, Office of Slovak’s Living Abroad, Slovak Film Institute, CSFFWA, Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest, and Vodafest.
